Does a word mark give my brand stronger protection?

A wordmark gives the broadest protection for a name, covering it in any font, color, or visual presentation. If a competitor uses the same name in connection with the same goods or services, a wordmark provides clear grounds to act regardless of how the name is styled.

What a wordmark does not protect is the visual identity. If a competitor copies your logo or color scheme without using your name, a wordmark alone does not give you grounds to challenge that. For complete brand protection, a wordmark for the name and a figurative mark for the logo together provide stronger combined coverage than either on its own.
