If I register a logo trademark, will my brand name be protected as well?

If you register a logo, your brand name will be partially protected, but it wouldn’t be the same level of protection that a wordmark offers.

If your brand name is a prominent and distinctive element of the logo, a third party using the same name may infringe on the logo trademark, particularly if the overall impression created is confusingly similar. However, this implicit protection has limits: a competitor who uses the same name in a completely different visual context may not be considered to infringe on the logo registration alone.

For reliable, standalone protection of the name in any font, color, or presentation, a separate wordmark registration is required.
