What is the difference between my company name and a brand name?

A company name is the official legal name of the entity that operates a business, while a brand name is the customer-facing name under which products or services are marketed and recognized by customers.

These two names do not have to match, and they often don't. One company can also own multiple brands.

For example, "The Coca-Cola Company" is the company name; Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite are among the brands it owns.

Trademark registration protects the brand name and the reputation customers associate with it, not the company name itself.
