Would changing the colour of the rectangle on my logo make any difference in terms of registrability?

No. A color change to a generic element such as a background rectangle is not considered a meaningful alteration for registration purposes. If the logo is refused or faces an opposition on the basis of similarity to an earlier mark, changing the color of a standard geometric shape will not resolve the issue.

To improve your chances of registration, you need to implement changes that create a different commercial impression. These are usually unique graphical elements, modified name components, or overhauls of the specific visual similarity that triggered the concern in the first place.
