Why is it better to trademark your logo in black and white?

It is usually best to file your trademark in black and white, since this can give you broader protection in some jurisdictions. A black-and-white registration often covers your mark in any color. If you register your mark in color, your protection is limited to those exact colors, so someone using the same design in different colors might not be infringing.

However, this advice depends on the jurisdiction. In the EU and many other places, it is usually better to file your trademark in color or in the version you use most in business. Make sure to check the rules for each jurisdiction before you file.
