We would like the broadest protection possible so that if changes in the logo are made later, those changes will not negatively impact the trademark protection for our brand. Shall we register the logo, the text, or both?

For the most comprehensive protection of your brand, businesses should consider registering the name as a wordmark (so that it remains durable through logo changes), and the logo as a figurative mark separately.

With this approach, a wordmark covers the name in any visual form and is not affected by changes to the logo. On the other hand, the figurative mark covers your brand’s specific visual design. Together, the two registrations ensure the name retains full protection even through rebranding, while the logo design is independently protected as long as it remains in use. Neither constituent can be copied or misused.
