Is a trademark worth it?

Trademark registration stops copycats from stealing a brand's identity and damaging its reputation. The more countries you register in, the broader the protection, since a trademark is only valid in the jurisdictions where it is registered.

Most business owners register in the countries with the largest customer base and highest sales volume, then expand their protection over time. Full global coverage is not required, and covering the primary markets (EU, US, UK, depending on where the business is active) is usually sufficient.

Apart from protecting businesses from direct copycats, a trademark registration also eliminates the risk of a third party registering the same name first and demanding that you stop using it entirely.
