My trademark has received an office action. What now?

Office actions are a normal part of the trademark registration process; in the US, roughly half of all applications receive one. Receiving an office action does not mean the application has failed.

Read the notice carefully to understand what the examiner has raised. The response must address each issue specifically. For procedural matters, a straightforward correction is usually sufficient. For substantive matters (likelihood of confusion, descriptiveness), a legal response arguing against the examiner's position is needed.
