In most jurisdictions, trademarks must be renewed every 10 years. The renewal fee is paid to the IP office where the trademark is registered, and the mark continues without re-examination for the next 10-year term.

The US has an additional mid-term requirement: a Declaration of Use must be filed between the 5th and 6th year after registration, confirming the trademark is still in active commercial use. Failure to file results in automatic cancellation regardless of whether the 10-year renewal has been paid.
