The Intellectual Property Office usually sends a reminder to renew your trademark. It depends on the jurisdiction, but usually, you will be notified a year or six months before your trademark expires. If you do not receive the notice, you assume responsibility and must keep your trademark valid by renewing it.
For example, the USPTO will send you a courtesy reminder to your email address six months before your registration expires. In other jurisdictions, the IPO will also send emails or letters to your address. However, the IPO never assumes responsibility for delivery. Unfortunately, what often happens is that the address entered ten years ago differs from the current one, so you might not get notified.
