Do I have to register a trademark in each member state of the EU?

No. A single EU trademark application filed with the EUIPO provides protection across all 27 member states simultaneously. There is no requirement to file separately in each country.

National trademarks in individual member states are also available for businesses that only need protection in specific countries rather than the whole EU. The two systems coexist; you can hold both an EU trademark and national trademarks in individual member states if the strategy requires it.
