I have already got three trademarks for our brand in the UK. What is the best way to expand the brand protection in the US?

For a single new country, filing a direct application with the USPTO is the most straightforward approach. Your UK registrations can also serve as the basis for a Madrid System international application if you want to cover additional countries beyond the US in the same filing.

As a non-US applicant, you are required by law to appoint a licensed US attorney to represent you before the USPTO. A successful UK registration does not guarantee success in the US; the USPTO will examine the application under US standards, which in some areas are stricter.

If any of your UK applications were filed less than six months ago, you can claim Paris Convention priority and use the UK filing date as the US priority date.
